Building Democracy, Inspiring Leaders

American Legion, California Boys & Girls State is a one of a kind program where students step into the heart of democracy. Serving in the capitol of California, Sacramento, students like myself participated in debates, elections, and hands-on leadership, discovering what it means to serve, to fundraise, legislate, lead, and create positive change within our communities.

City of Young

At American Legion, delegates are assigned mock cities named after our fallen veterans, making up our mock counties and mock state of California. I was allocated into The City of Young, being my home, and my family during this one week program. Through Young, I was able to work alongside like-minded peers, crafting legislation, performing in mock debates, and making new friends.

Legal Advocacy Competition

During the California Boys & Girls State Competition, I competed in the Supreme Court Legal Advocacy Competition. Here, I worked on the real life case of Mahmoud v. Taylor (2025) on the right for parents to opt their children out of Gender Identity mandated curriculum, debating both sides of the plaintiff and defendant. Out of 200+ competitors, I placed 2nd over multiple rounds across four days.
